Developing Our Lives in 2011

The year 2011 will bring many people to re-evaluate their lives and make New Year’s resolutions. Focusing on the new always seems exciting and adventurous. “New” helps the economy. Every year, manufacturers bring to market new cell phones, televisions and computers, to name a few. The anticipation of a new year is an exciting one, many people feel like it is a new slate. “This is the year that all our goals will be met,” they say. This is what we tell ourselves year after year after year, only to divagate or stray from our well-intended mission.

As I reviewed my own personal list of what I want to achieve in the coming year, the thought came across my mind about the things that I need to develop. I have many things that are not completed and need developing. It seems easier to just throw away the old and bring in the new; after all, many of us are taught that new is better. Yet, if new is always better then, why doesn’t new stay new for long?

When we develop something we alter its position relative to its desired state. One of the definitions of development according to Dictionary.com is “to bring out the capabilities or possibilities of; bring to a more advanced or effective state.” Our bodies, for example, are in a process of regeneration. We do not receive new bodies; although many of us wish we could. We have to give our bodies the proper amount of nutrition and the sleep and medical attention to help our bodies continue to work for us. In the places we live, we can not always move when we feel some dissatisfaction about where we live, so many of us embark on home improvement projects, developing our home to what we would have it to be.

The company that I represent acknowledges that we are always in the process of development. Nikken has been in business for more than thirty five years. Nikken focuses on the five pillars of health which consist of a “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Health Family, Healthy Society, and Healthy Finances.” In the year 2011, choose one or all of these five pillars of health and seek to develop them.

My suggestion to my readers are to review the five pillars of health and perhaps among the five there may be one or more that you may want to develop. As always, I welcome your comments; and have a Happy Healthy New Year!

Achieving Balance This Holiday Season

The clock is ticking and the holidays will be soon be here. During this time people are scurrying to get everything done. Our jobs and our personal lives are becoming more demanding. As a result, our bodies demand more nutrition, rest, and physical and mental relaxation. Shopping, visitors, deadlines, and traffic are among some of the activities that can cause us to feel extreme stress.

Humans are experiencing more stress today, even in the presence of modern technology. I enjoy modern technology and all the tools that it can afford us, just like the next person. I enjoy receiving fax messages on my iPhone, and love working anywhere in the world due to technology. However, such modalities can cause us to feel we can take on more than we can handle.

As I address the aforementioned issues that will probably affect us in the coming months, many of you may be wondering “well, what is the solution?” Realizing the problem is the first step, but the next steps are up to you. The very fact that you are reading my blog gives me an indication that you care about your health. I believe we as human beings instinctively know when our life is out of balance.

During this holiday season, let us look within ourselves and to others and find ways to modulate our lives. If you need to take extra health supplementation or reduce the amount of shopping, then do this. Balance is what we need. This is why I recommend a balanced approach in line with Nikken’s 5 pillars of health: “Healthy body, mind, family, society, and finances.” For more information on the 5 pillars of health, visit my website www.barbaraaki.com. If you have any suggestions to share with us on how we can seek balance in the five pillars of health, please feel free to comment. Your suggestions could be one of the best gifts someone may receive this year. I invite you to explore Nikken, especially, if you share this company’s belief of achieving balance through the 5 pillars of health.

Take Responsibility for Your Own Healthcare

We are approaching 2011 and, as most of you know, there is a healthcare crisis going on in the United States. Some are hoping for better healthcare and some are advocating for a national healthcare insurance system. In other parts of the world, such as Canada and Europe, healthcare is freely available, at little or no cost to the patient. Some Americans wish we could have a healthcare system similar to that.

Even if we could have a healthcare system that is more affordable to everyone, we would still be faced with a less than perfect health care system. What influences health? What is the definition of health? According to Dictionary.com, health is “soundness of body or mind; freedom from disease or ailment.” Health does not begin in the doctor’s office as some would have you believe. Health begins at home, meaning it starts with you. Although I definitely advocate regular checkups and working with your medical doctor, working with your doctor can be a wonderful alliance when you are actively involved and take responsibility for your own health choices.

Proper education on what to do to achieve total wellness is the first step toward taking responsibilty for your own health. That’s why I aligned myself with Nikken, the only company that I am aware of that offers a total wellness solution. Nikken is a company that is founded on the 5 pillars of health: “body, mind, family, society, and finances.” This holistic philosophy is the cornerstone of everything this 35-year old company does.
